The tournament basks in the praise for its returned modesty. Once again, instead of caviar, the menu contains the local Filderkraut more often — “A normality that does good.” Normal is also that the natural, cheerful but also idiosyncratic face of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix holds a lot of surprises. With Claudia Kohde-Kilsch, Bettina Bunge and Eva Pfaff, three top German players reach the quarterfinal. And the 15-year old Steffi Graf — world ranked No. 42 — made her breakthrough by reaching the final. The youngster from nearby Brühl was delighted with the “most beautiful tournament experience” and Dieter Fischer plays fortune-teller by saying, “A new world star has been born.”
